Monthly Letter

Dear Parents,

Greetings in December!  We have a lot of activities planned during this month and not a lot of time.  The students need to keep striving for excellence at this time, so keep practicing your spelling words, multiplication facts, and as always read!

Dear Families,

This year one of our holiday activities will be to construct a graham cracker candy house with our 4th grader’s former reading buddies that are now in 8th grade.  This will provide us the opportunity to reconnect with our older friends.  On Thursday, December 13th from 12:45-2:10, the kids will use problem solving skills to engineer a beautiful and edible structure. Plus, it’s a time to make lasting memories.

There are many supplies needed in order to decorate the house in true “candy house style.” Every child will need to bring in the following supplies:

  1. A flat piece of card board covered in foil, with his/her name written on it.
  2. A box of Honey Made Graham Crackers (This brand works the BEST!)
  3. 1-2 cans of vanilla frosting in gallon Ziplock bag. (We will give your child the Ziplock bag the on Wednesday, December 12th, so you can help your child scoop the frosting into the bag.)
  4. 2-3 different types of candy they would like to decorate his/her house. (They can bring up to five different candies, however too many can be overwhelming.)  Below, you will find a list of possible candies your child might want to use. You might have other creative ideas for your child to use.

Your child should have all supplies here the morning of December 13th, or you can bring supplies in at 12:30p.m, if you are wanting to come in to help. Any extra hands are greatly appreciated!  The 8th graders will be there to help to provide support and join in on the fun! Thank you for your help with this fun, innovative, and YUMMY project!

CANDY IDEAS:

*Jellybeans    *Skittles        *M&M’s    *Lifesavers     *Chocolate chips *Tooties Roll    *mini candy cane      *red licorice    *gum drops    *pretzels sticks

*Red hots    *peppermints        *Waffle Cone    *sour patch kids

Dear Parents,

Welcome back from Thanksgiving Break!  We hope you had a wonderful time with your child.  We are so thankful for such a fun and enthusiastic class.

The next few weeks are full of fun and creative activities, and we will keep you informed as much as possible. Please make sure you keep checking your child’s planner for updates or our classroom website.  We’ll be sending more information home about classroom party on December 20th.  Right now, we are planning for a holiday breakfast.  Please note there will be Christmas Sock gift exchange at school.  Every child will need to bring a Christmas stocking to school with his/her name on it. They will also need to bring a regular size light bulb for a project.

Don’t forget coming Thursday, December 6th is MVCKS Fiesta Night. Doors will open at 4:45 p.m. with food being served and games begin at     5:00 p.m. Fourth grade students will perform at 6:15p.m.  Please donate a bag of candy for this festive event.   We appreciate all of your assistance and support you have given your child.  Remember this is to be a fun evening celebrating the Spanish Culture.  Our intention is to show case our outstanding students at Mountain View Core Knowledge, and your child is very important to us.

One last item, we would like to thank you for taking your time to read with your child, build castles, to attend conferences, and all of your encouraging words. Your child’s success wouldn’t happen without your love and encouragement.  Thank you!!!!!

                             Sincerely,

                             Mrs. Horne and Mrs. Reish
