December 2, 2019

Dear Parents,

Welcome back from Thanksgiving Break!  We hope you had a wonderful time with your child.  We are so thankful for such a fun and enthusiastic class.

The next few weeks are full of fun and creative activities, and we will keep you informed as much as possible. Please make sure you keep checking your child’s planner for updates or our classroom website. A 4th grade tradition is constructing Gingerbread houses. We will be making Gingerbread House on December 12th.  We’ll be sending more information home about classroom party on December 19th.  Right now, we are planning for a holiday breakfast with our Kindergarten Buddies.  There will be a sign-up sheet coming home later this week.

Please note there will be Christmas Sock gift exchange at school.  Every child will need to bring a Christmas stocking to school with his/her name on it by   December 10th.  The students will be able to fill their classmates stockings with tiny gifts on December 19th.  The gifts can be anything from candy canes, pencils, bouncy balls, play dough, etc. You can be as creative as you want with this project.

Your child always love to surprise you with a special gift created by their own hands.  However, we will need a little bit of help with this. They need to bring in an empty Pringles can to school by December 16th. While you are stressfully getting ready for all the crazy activities of December, buy yourself a can of Pringles and munch away!

There will be no  MVCKS Fiesta Night this year in December, it has been moved to a later date.   We appreciate all of your assistance and support you have given your child in practicing Spanish, please make sure they are returning with his/her Spanish homework.

One last item, thank you for taking your time to read with your child every night, and supporting every activity from building castles, making Notable costumes, to attending conferences, and all of your encouraging words. Your child’s success wouldn’t happen without your love and encouragement.  Mountain View wouldn’t be as successful without you! Thank you!!!!!

               Sincerely,

Mrs. Horne, Mrs. Reish and Ms. Olsen

Dear Families,

This year one of our holiday activities will be to construct a graham cracker candy house with our 4th grader’s former reading buddies that are now in 8th grade.  This will provide us the opportunity to reconnect with our older friends.  On Thursday, December 12th from 1:15-2:30, the kids will use problem solving skills to engineer a beautiful and edible structure. Plus, it’s a time to make lasting memories.

There are many supplies needed in order to decorate the house in true “candy house style.” Every child will need to bring in the following supplies:

  1. A flat piece of cardboard or cookie sheet covered in foil, with his/her name written on it.
  2. A box of Honey Maid Graham Crackers (This brand works the BEST!)
  3. 1-2 cans of vanilla frosting in gallon Ziplock bag. (We will give your child the Ziplock bag the on Wednesday, December 11th, so you can help your child scoop the frosting into the bag.)
  4. 2-3 different types of candy they would like to decorate his/her house. (They can bring up to five different candies, however too many can be overwhelming.)  Below, you will find a list of possible candies your child might want to use. You might have other creative ideas for your child to use.

Your child should have all supplies here the morning of December 12th, or you can bring supplies in at 1:15p.m, if you are wanting to come in to help. Any extra hands are greatly appreciated!  The 8th graders will be there to help to provide support and join in on the fun! Thank you for your help with this fun, innovative, and YUMMY project!
